Travis’ Custom Climber
They say the first million is the hardest…
Travis takes cycling seriously. On top of his races, and cycling for charity, he also rides through the city. Travis wanted to upgrade from his carbon bike after experiencing the supple quality and responsiveness of our steel frames.
Travis has set out to ride a million vertical feet in 2017 to raise money for pancreatic cancer research. In order to summit the North Shore mountains on a regular basis, he needed a bike that was light, fast, and comfortable. We started with an 1146 frame, making small adjustments to tailor it for Travis’ challenge, but ensuring that he’ll be able to ride this bike for years to come.
We went with a Shimano Ultegra drivetrain, which has proven to be a reliable workhorse without adding significant weight. The Ritchey WCS cockpit is put together with some of the lightest alloy and carbon parts that can be put on a bike.
We set this bike up with Ritchey Apex 38mm carbon rims and Continental Gatorskins. The rims are strong and light, while the Gatorskins help with the debris that collects on roads of our local mountains.
We finished the bike off with Travis’ signature “pink bar tape” that he puts on all of his bikes, representing his support for pancreatic cancer research. Follow @pinkbartape on instragram to support Travis as he climbs his way to the top!
