Dave’s Stainless Prototype

Dave's Stainless Prototype Landyachtz Bikes

A stainless steel frame that gives carbon a run for its money…

Dave’s Stainless Prototype is a dedicated road frame with tight clearances and responsive geometry. The stainless steel frame will never rust, has an eye-catching aesthetic, and the stiffness and weight are almost on par with a carbon frame.

For components, Dave is running a full Shimano Ultegra groupset, Cane Creek 110 headset, Whiskey Parts Co #2 carbon fork, FSA 42cm road drop bars, and a Deda stem and seat post. Knowing this frame was very light for being made of steel, Dave’s goal was to keep the weight down while maintaining a classic look. At 18.5 pounds, this is the lightest Landyachtz bike so far.

Dave decided against carbon wheels, as the modern look didn’t suit the aesthetic he was after. He went with a Ritchey Zeta II wheelset and Conti Grand Prix 4 season 28c tires. The Zetas are a great looking, classic wheel that are still very light. And since they are made of alloy, they didn’t break the bank. A slightly wider tire added additional comfort for the occasional gravel ride, and extra traction in the wet.

The bike is currently stripped down without any accessories (except for that sweet water bottle). For longer rides, Dave usually goes with a MEC saddle bag filled with snacks, lights, tire irons, extra tubes, and a lightweight, compact pump. For tours he runs a handlebar bag with a stash of street clothes.

This bike is Dave’s all-year commuter, his masher for after work Stanley park laps, and reliable workhorse for longer(50-100k) rides on the weekends.
